Job summary

Commerce is seeking a Lead Software Engineer- Infrastructure in a hybrid Austin-based role. The team designs the foundational tech stack powering Commerce stores and the tools to enable rapid development and deployment.

You will lead infrastructure initiatives, collaborate with distributed teams, and drive tooling health, reliability, and on-call readiness in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• At least 7 years experience as an Infrastructure or Software Engineer.
• Knowledge of configuration management systems such as Puppet, Chef, or Ansible (we use Puppet).
• Hands-on experience with Linux administration, including scripting in Ruby and Bash.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and improve BigCommerce's Development Environment consisting of several containerized services.
• Manage cloud hosted VMs in Google Cloud Platform
• Automate repetitive manual processes
• Document technical architecture and user features
• Educate engineers on tool usage and possible process improvements
• Assist in defining the team’s roadmap
• Work closely with Engineers to gather requirements
• Create and monitor statistics to observe tooling health and functionality
• Work with distributed teams across the world
• Join the team’s on-call rotation
