Job summary

Thompson Engineering is seeking a dedicated Special Inspector to join our team in the Southeast. The role involves conducting field and laboratory inspections of construction materials, interpreting plans and codes, and maintaining accurate records throughout projects.

Candidates should have 3+ years in construction inspection, hold ICC/ACI/AWS/NICET certifications, and be able to travel as needed. A high school diploma with relevant engineering or construction management education is preferred.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of experience in construction inspection or materials testing.
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
• Current certifications: ICC Special Inspection, ACI, AWS, or NICET.
• Strong understanding of IBC, ASTM, ACI, AWS codes and standards.
• Willing to travel to support projects as needed.

Responsibilities

• Perform field and/or laboratory inspections of construction materials and activities.
• Prepare and maintain detailed inspection records and test results.
• Interpret project plans, specifications and codes to ensure compliance.
• Communicate findings to project managers, contractors and engineers.
• Maintain certifications and continuing education as required.
