Job summary

Thompson Engineering in Knoxville, TN is seeking a dedicated Special Inspector to join our team. You will perform field and laboratory inspections of construction materials and activities to ensure compliance with project specifications, codes, and industry standards.

Qualifications

High School diploma or equivalent; associate or bachelor0s degree in engineering or construction management preferred.
Minimum 3 years of experience in construction inspection or materials testing.
Current ICC Special Inspection certifications.
ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician - Grade I.
NICET certification in construction or geotechnical inspection preferred.

Responsibilities

Perform field and laboratory inspections of construction materials and activities (e.g., reinforced concrete, structural masonry, welding, soils, fireproofing, and structural steel).
Prepare and maintain detailed records of inspections, test results, and observations.
Interpret project plans, specifications, and codes to ensure compliance.
Communicate with project managers, contractors, and engineers to report findings and resolve issues.
Maintain certifications and continuing education as required.
