Job summary

Thompson Engineering is seeking a dedicated Special Inspector to perform field and laboratory inspections for reinforced concrete, masonry, welding and soils, ensuring compliance with project plans and codes. You will maintain detailed inspection records and communicate findings with project teams, while keeping certifications up to date.

Requires 3+ years in construction inspection, relevant certifications (ICC, ACI, AWS, NICET preferred), and the ability to travel to project sites.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience in construction inspection or materials testing.
• Must have current certifications in ICC Special Inspection, ACI, AWS and NICET (preferred).
• Strong understanding of IBC, ASTM, ACI, AWS, and other applicable codes and standards.
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

Responsibilities

• Perform field and/or laboratory inspections of construction materials and activities (reinforced concrete, structural masonry, welding, soils, fireproofing, structural steel).
• Prepare and maintain detailed records of inspections, test results, and observations.
• Interpret project plans, specifications, and codes to ensure compliance.
• Communicate with project managers, contractors, and engineers to report findings and resolve issues.
• Maintain certifications and continuing education as required.
