Job summary

Thompson Engineering is seeking a dedicated Special Inspector to perform field and laboratory inspections on concrete, masonry, welding, soils, and related materials in Houston. The role requires strong technical knowledge, excellent communication, and a commitment to accuracy and integrity.

Minimum 3 years in construction inspection or materials testing is expected, with certifications such as ICC Special Inspection, ACI, AWS, or NICET preferred.

Qualifications

• Must have 3+ years of construction inspection or materials testing experience.
• Current certifications in ICC Special Inspection, ACI, AWS and NICET preferred.
• Strong knowledge of IBC, ASTM, ACI, AWS standards and testing methods.
• Ability to read plans, interpret specifications, and communicate findings clearly.

Responsibilities

• Perform field and laboratory inspections of concrete, masonry, welding, soils, fireproofing, and structural steel.
• Maintain detailed records of inspections, test results, and observations.
• Interpret project plans and codes to ensure compliance with specifications.
• Communicate findings to project managers, contractors, and engineers; report issues and resolutions.
• Maintain required certifications and complete continuing education as needed.
