Job summary

Cushman & Wakefield is seeking a Lead Operating Engineer to ensure efficient operations and maintenance of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems at the assigned facility. The role may involve supervising staff and working as the sole engineer at smaller properties.

It requires extensive hands-on technical work and strong attention to safety and reliability. The position emphasizes preventive maintenance, system optimization, and coordinating with contractors.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of related trade experience in operating mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems in a commercial property setting.
• Licenses/permits for trade may be required (Journeyman or Master Electrician License, City Licenses, Operators License, Steam Engineers License, etc.).
• EPA Section 608 Universal certification for refrigerants is preferred; capable of servicing and disposing refrigerants.
• Valid driver's license with good driving record; periodic checks.
• Basic computing skills in Outlook, Excel & Word.
• Experience with HVAC, boilers, pumps, refrigerant systems and related equipment.
• Knowledge of energy management systems and building operations.

Responsibilities

• Assist with or conduct daily operations and maintenance of MEP systems and general maintenance.
• Supervise maintenance staff when applicable and monitor activities and projects.
• Perform preventive maintenance tasks: filters, lubrication, lamps, bearings, belts, inspections.
• Recommend improvements to preventive maintenance programs.
• Develop and maintain building-specific maintenance procedures.
• Coordinate maintenance with outside contractors and technicians.
• Maintain stock and inventory control.
• Respond to emergencies and customer concerns promptly.
• Ensure compliance with codes and safety practices; report monthly operations to management.
• Complete required Cushman & Wakefield safety training; follow dress code.
