Job summary

The New York State Department of Transportation seeks an Environmental Specialist to lead the environmental program for the Regional Construction Group. You will review environmental aspects of capital projects, coordinate permits, and provide technical assistance to construction staff to ensure compliance and timely delivery.

You will develop staff training, engage with regulatory agencies, and support quality assurance across regional construction activities.

Qualifications

Must be a qualified NYS employee with one year permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as Environmental Specialist 1, Environmental Specialist Trainee 1/2, Landscape Architect, or Assistant Landscape Architect.
Open Competitive requires seven years of environmental analysis experience including EIA knowledge and regulatory compliance.
Substitution: associate degree substitutes for two years; bachelor’s for four; master’s for five; doctorate for six years of experience.

Responsibilities

Lead, coordinate, and implement the environmental program for the Regional Construction Group.
Provide constructability review of environmental aspects of capital projects during development/design.
Coordinate environmental permitting during project delivery.
Develop and deliver environmental training for regional construction staff.
Provide leadership on environmental stewardship activities and coordinate with regulatory agencies.
