Job summary

The State of New York - Department of Transportation in Erie County (Buffalo) seeks Environmental Specialist Trainee 1/2 or Environmental Specialist 1 under the NY HELPS program. The role focuses on environmental analysis in connection with transportation projects, data gathering, and reporting to support project decisions.

Responsibilities include reviewing permits, advising on regulatory requirements, and contributing to emergency response planning.

Qualifications

Four years of environmental analysis experience including preparation/review of environmental impact analyses.
Experience with state and federal environmental laws/regulations and reporting.
Ability to prepare technical analyses and provide consultation on environmental impact rules.

Responsibilities

Analyze environmental issues affecting the State's transportation network; gather data, analyze, write reports, and make recommendations.
Review consultant preparation and processing of environmental permit requests and other regulatory documents.
Negotiate solutions acceptable to the Department and regulators; advise design/construction program areas on environmental rules.
Prepare environmental impact documents and support incident response in emergencies.
