Job summary

Lake Superior Consulting seeks an Electrical Power Engineer to design, analyze, and upgrade MV and LV power distribution and generation systems for industrial clients. You will lead electrical scope on projects from concept through commissioning and mentor junior engineers.

We offer flexible work location (hybrid or remote) with opportunities across energy, manufacturing, and utilities, and a compensation package ranging from $80,000 to $115,000 per year.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from an ABET‑accredited program.
• Minimum of 3 years of electrical power systems experience in industrial, utility, or consulting environments.
• Experience designing/modifying MV (1 kV–38 kV) and LV power distribution.
• Hands‑on modeling experience in SKM PowerTools, ETAP, EasyPower or equivalent.
• Working knowledge of NEC, NFPA 70E, IEEE standards for industrial power systems.
• Ability to read one‑line diagrams and vendor drawings; strong technical writing.
• Willingness to travel ~10% to project sites.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain power system models; perform load flow, short‑circuit, coordination, arc flash, and harmonic studies.
• Develop protective relay settings and coordination for feeders, transformers, motors, generators, and buses.
• Design and evaluate grounding systems per IEEE 80/81; soil resistivity and grid modeling.
• Size and rate equipment (transformers, cables, buses, breakers) and verify duties.
• Perform hazardous area classification per NEC and API considerations.
• Review and QC studies, calculations, and vendor reports.
• Lead the electrical scope on moderate to large projects; mentor others.
• Interface with clients, contractors, and vendors; support design reviews and safety reviews.
