Trupanion, Inc. is seeking an Data Engineering Manager in the Seattle area for a hybrid role. You will lead the Data Engineering team, align initiatives with Analytics and Data Science, and ensure high-quality data delivery across the organization.

You will own the design and maintenance of scalable data pipelines, oversee Azure-based data platforms, and drive improvements in processes, collaboration, and delivery. The role emphasizes governance, security, and robust operational practices.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent work experience.
• 3+ years leading data engineering teams including coaching and delivery across initiatives.
• 5+ years designing and improving ETL for data warehousing and analytics.
• 3+ years of Microsoft/Azure data warehousing experience with SQL Server, Azure SQL, ADLS Gen2, Synapse, Databricks, Spark.
• Experience with Linux/AWS tools a plus.
• Experience with change management, release management, and source control.
• Production data platforms with SLAs, monitoring, incidents, root-cause analysis, and optimization.
• CI/CD and automated testing for data workloads.
• Modern data architecture patterns (Lakehouse, medallion, dimensional modeling).
• Cloud cost optimization and capacity management for enterprise data platforms.
• Knowledge of data governance, security, privacy, metadata, lineage, and RBAC.
• Strong SQL and hands-on Python/PySpark for direction and reviews.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the Data Engineering team, setting priorities and ensuring timely data delivery.
• Partner with Data Analytics, Data Science, and stakeholders to align initiatives.
• Design, develop, and maintain scalable data pipelines (ETL/ELT, streaming, big data).
• Manage operational health of data platforms (availability, performance, incidents, SLAs/SLOs).
• Promote engineering standards and best practices (quality, testing, docs, reliability).
• Improve engineering workflows, delivery processes, and cross-team communication.
• Oversee data warehousing and analytics in Azure (SQL, Synapse, ADLS Gen2, Databricks).
• Ensure data accuracy, integrity, and regulatory compliance (SOX where applicable).
• Manage change processes: release, source control, deployments.
• Support Agile practices: sprint execution, backlog, cross-team collaboration.
• Mentor data engineers and guide architectural decisions for long-term evolution.
