Job summary

Trupanion seeks a Data Engineering Manager to lead the Data Engineering team, align data initiatives with analytics and business goals, and own the design, delivery, and operation of scalable data pipelines in a hybrid Seattle office setting.

You will collaborate with Data Analytics and Science, implement CI/CD for data workloads, and guide architecture decisions while ensuring data quality, security, and regulatory compliance across enterprise platforms.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or appropriate work experience.
• 3+ years leading data engineering teams, coaching engineers and delivering multiple initiatives.
• 5+ years designing and enhancing ETL processes for data warehousing and enterprise data integration.
• 3+ years with data warehousing in Microsoft/Azure environment using SQL Server, Azure SQL, ADLS Gen2, Synapse, Databricks.
• Experience with Linux/AWS environments is a plus.
• Experience with software/infrastructure change management, release management and source control.
• Experience with CI/CD and automated testing for data engineering workloads.
• Knowledge of modern data architectures (Lakehouse, medallion, dimensional modeling).
• Experience with cloud cost optimization and data governance.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the Data Engineering team by setting priorities and supporting day-to-day execution for reliable data delivery.
• Partner with Data Analytics, Data Science, and business stakeholders to align data initiatives with goals.
• Design, develop, and maintain scalable data pipelines including ETL/ELT, data integrations, streaming, and big data solutions.
• Own operational health of enterprise data platforms: availability, performance, incident response, SLAs/SLOs.
• Promote engineering standards, testing, documentation, and operational excellence.
• Improve engineering workflows, delivery processes, and cross-team communication.
• Oversee data warehousing and analytics in Azure: Synapse, Databricks, ADLS Gen2.
• Ensure data accuracy, integrity, and compliance with enterprise standards and SOX controls.
• Manage release management and source control; coordinate deployments.
• Support Agile development with backlog management and sprint execution.
• Mentor data engineers and provide technical guidance for growth.
• Contribute to architecture decisions for long-term data ecosystem evolution.
