Job summary

The City of Portales is seeking a Head Custodian to plan and supervise custodial staff, perform cleaning and light maintenance across City buildings, and ensure adherence to city policies. The role requires physical stamina and reliable teamwork, with a 40-hour work week and potential for non-scheduled hours.

Responsibilities include inventory management, floor care, and report of equipment issues, while promoting a positive image of the City and delivering excellent customer service.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience with custodial equipment and cleaning methods preferred.
• Must have a valid New Mexico driver’s license.
• Good physical condition and ability to lift 50–75 pounds.
• Ability to work with others and under supervision.
• 18 years of age or older.

Responsibilities

• Plan and supervise custodial staff and cleaning of City buildings.
• Perform cleaning tasks including floor care, vacuuming, dusting, window cleaning and light maintenance.
• Maintain inventory of cleaning products and coordinate purchases.
• Report equipment defects and safety concerns.
• Attend safety trainings and perform duties to project a positive City image.
