Job summary

State of South Carolina Department of Corrections seeks a Supervisory Security Officer to oversee inmate housing units and supervise security staff. You will conduct inspections, investigations and counts, and prepare necessary reports to maintain safety and order.

The role requires a high school diploma with relevant experience; a criminal justice degree may substitute for part of the experience. Certification and basic supervisory training are required.

Qualifications

• A high school diploma or GED is required with relevant experience.
• A bachelor's degree may substitute for part of the required experience.
• Certification by the SCDC Training Academy is required.
• Must complete the basic supervisory course within six months of entry.

Responsibilities

• Oversee subordinate security assigned to housing units and supervise inmates.
• Perform routine inspections of living areas for security, safety and sanitation.
• Investigate alleged misconduct by inmates or staff.
• Assist in conducting counts and prepare reports as needed.
• Supervise staff performance, provide coaching and evaluations.
• Counsel, discipline recommendations and training for staff to required standards.
