Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Corrections seeks an experienced security supervisor to plan, coordinate and direct the actions of the security staff in a medium/maximum security facility. You will oversee security, custody and control of inmates and ensure safety and order.

Under general supervision, you will ensure compliance with OSHA standards, perform routine unit checks, assist with inmate counts and resolve disputes.

Qualifications

• Requires a high school diploma and three years of correctional, security, military, or police experience, including one year in supervision.
• A degree in criminal justice or a related field may substitute for supervisory experience year-for-year (associate degree = 1 year).
• Must be certified by the SCDC Training Academy and complete the basic supervisory course within six months of entry.

Responsibilities

• Directs security staff and oversees custody and control of inmates in assigned unit(s) of a medium/maximum security facility.
• Assumes primary responsibility for security for all buildings and public property.
• Conducts routine checks to ensure duties are performed properly and OSHA standards are maintained.
• Assists with inmate counts for accuracy.
• Investigates complaints and disputes among inmates and staff.
