Job summary

South Carolina Department of Corrections is seeking a supervisory security professional to direct a unit's security staff and oversee custody and control of inmates in a medium/maximum security facility.

You will help ensure the safety of buildings and public property, perform routine checks for compliance with OSHA standards, assist with inmate counts, and investigate disputes among inmates and staff. Must complete eight weeks of SCDC Basic Training after hire.

Qualifications

• High school diploma and relevant experience required.
• Bachelor’s degree may substitute for the required experience.
• Supervisory experience may be substituted year-for-year by a degree in criminal justice or related field.

Responsibilities

• Oversee security staff and custody and control of inmates in medium/maximum security units.
• Assume responsibility for security of buildings and public property.
• Conduct routine unit checks to ensure staff performance, safety, cleanliness and OSHA compliance.
• Assist with inmate counts for accuracy.
• Investigate complaints and disputes among inmates and staff.
