Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Corrections is seeking a supervisory security professional for an SMU in a Medium/Maximum security facility. Under general supervision, you will plan, coordinate, and direct security staff and oversee custody and control of inmates.

You will require substantial correctional/security experience with supervisory duties, plus SCDC training completion within six months. A high school diploma is required; a related degree may substitute for experience.

Qualifications

• Must complete eight weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.
• High school diploma with relevant experience; a related degree may substitute for experience.
• Must be certified by the SCDC training academy and complete the basic supervisory course within six months.

Responsibilities

• Plan, coordinate, and direct the actions of the security staff, and oversee security, custody and control of inmates in SMU of a Medium /Maximum security facility.
• Assumes primary responsibility for security for all buildings and public property.
• Make routine checks of the unit(s) to ensure subordinate staff are performing their duties properly and safely, and that OSHA standards are maintained.
• Assist with all inmates counts for accuracy.
• Investigate complaints and violations; arbitrate disputes among inmate population and correctional staff.
