Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Corrections seeks a supervisory security professional to plan, coordinate and direct security staff and oversee custody and control of inmates in a medium/maximum security facility.

This role ensures security of all buildings and public property, conducts routine unit checks, assists with inmate counts and resolves disputes. The position will function as a Utility Lieutenant and requires completion of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.

Qualifications

• A high school diploma and relevant experience.
• A bachelor's degree in a related field may substitute for the required experience.
• Must be certified by the SCDC Training Academy and successfully complete the basic supervisory course within six (6) months of entry into the position.

Responsibilities

• Under general supervision, plans, coordinates and directs the actions of the security staff and oversees security, custody and control of Inmates in a medium/maximum security facility.
• Assumes primary responsibility for security of all buildings and public property.
• Makes routine checks of the unit(s) to ensure subordinate staff are performing their duties properly and safely, and that cleanliness and OSHA standards are maintained.
• Assists with all inmates counts for accuracy.
• Investigates complaints and violations; arbitrates disputes among Inmate population and correctional staff.
• This position will function as a Utility Lieutenant
