Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Corrections is seeking a supervisory security professional to lead security staff, oversee custody and control of inmates in a medium to maximum security unit, and ensure safety and compliance across operations.

Successful candidates will complete the eight-week SCDC Basic Training, hold a high school diploma with relevant experience (a related bachelor’s degree may substitute), and have three years in correctional or security roles, including one year in

• Supervisory experience in a security or custody setting.
• Knowledge of inmate safety, security procedures and facility operations.
• Familiarity with OSHA standards and workplace safety.

Responsibilities

• Plans, coordinates and directs security staff in a medium/maximum security facility.
• Oversees security, custody and control of inmates.
• Performs routine unit checks to ensure duties are performed safely and OSHA standards are met.
• Assists with inmate counts for accuracy.
• Investigates complaints and disputes among inmates and staff.
