Job summary

South Carolina DDSN is seeking a Security Supervisor to oversee shift security personnel, support evaluations, and handle disciplinary actions. The role includes briefing officers, monitoring inmate movement, and addressing inmate concerns to maintain safety and order.

The position requires a high school diploma with relevant experience; a bachelor’s degree may substitute for part of the experience, and on-entry training is mandatory to complete a supervisory course within six months.

Qualifications

• A high school diploma and eighteen (18) months experience in correctional, security, military, or police work.
• A degree in criminal justice or a related degree may substitute for 1/2 of required experience.
• Must be certified by the SCDC Training Academy and complete the basic supervisory course within six months.

Responsibilities

• Supervises the performance of Security personnel assigned to shift.
• Assists with preparation of employee evaluations, disciplinary actions, and counseling sessions.
• Assists with conducting shift briefings with all officers.
• Remains familiar with all activities during the shift to inform subordinates of changes.
• Makes routine and non-routine security checks of work areas and living units.
• Conducts counts (formal and non-formal).
• Investigates inmate complaints and takes appropriate action; counsels inmates as required.
• Monitors inmate movement within the institution.
• Performs essential and marginal duties of subordinates; performs other duties as assigned.
