Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Corrections is seeking a supervisor to oversee security personnel assigned to the housing unit and to supervise custody and control of inmates. The role includes evaluating performance, conducting shift briefings, and ensuring staff are informed of policy changes.

You will perform routine inspections, counts, and investigations of complaints, and you may cover the housing lieutenant’s duties when absent.

Qualifications

• High school diploma and relevant experience.
• Bachelor's degree may substitute for the required experience.
• Must be certified by the SCDC Training Academy and complete the basic supervisory course within six months of entry.
• Must successfully complete eight (8) weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.

Responsibilities

• Oversees security personnel assigned to the housing unit and custody/control of inmates.
• Assists with employee evaluations, disciplinary actions, counseling, and conduct briefings at shift start.
• Keeps subordinates informed of changes affecting inmates and operations; performs routine inspections of work areas and security devices.
• Conducts counts, investigates complaints, and covers duties of the housing lieutenant in their absence.
• Maintains OSHA and safety standards.
