Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Corrections seeks a dedicated corrections professional to oversee housing unit security, supervise officers, and ensure orderly inmate custody and safety. Under general supervision, you will conduct inspections, investigations of misconduct, counts, and training; counsel staff, prepare reports, and, when needed, perform lieutenant duties.

Compliance with security, safety, and sanitation standards is essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree substitution for required experience may apply.
• High school diploma required; related experience acceptable.
• Must be certified by SCDC training academy and complete basic supervisory course within 6 months.

Responsibilities

• Oversee housing unit security and inmate custody.
• Instruct and direct officers in discipline programs under Shift Lieutenant.
• Perform routine inspections of living areas for security, safety, and sanitation standards.
• Conduct investigations of misconduct by inmates and security staff.
• Assist in conducting formal and informal counts.
• Supervise job performance, conduct, and appearance of security personnel.
• Counsel, recommend disciplinary actions, train subordinate staff, and prepare reports as needed.
• Perform duties of Lieutenant when necessary.
