Job summary

The State of South Carolina Department of Corrections seeks a Supervisory Security Officer to oversee housing unit staff and inmate supervision.

You will conduct routine inspections, investigate misconduct, aid in counts, supervise personnel, and prepare evaluations and reports. Requirements include a high school diploma with relevant experience; a related degree may substitute part of the experience; mandatory SCDC training after hire.

Qualifications

• A high school diploma and relevant experience.
• Bachelor’s degree may substitute for required experience.
• A criminal justice degree may substitute for half of required experience.

Responsibilities

• Oversee security personnel assigned to housing units and supervise inmate custody and control.
• Conduct routine inspections of living areas for compliance with security, safety and sanitation standards.
• Conduct investigations of alleged misconduct by inmates and security personnel.
• Assist in conducting formal and informal counts.
• Supervise job performance, conduct, and appearance; prepare employee evaluations.
• Counsel, recommend disciplinary action, and train subordinate staff to required standards; prepare reports.
