Job summary

Pearson in the United States is seeking an experienced lead editor for editorial and assessment content. You will implement grammar, spelling, usage, and style per department standards, ensure consistency across components, and manage editorial risks while training colleagues.

The role emphasizes collaboration across publishing platforms, staff development, and the use of AI-assisted tools to improve quality and accessibility, while upholding copyright rules; compensation is hourly and bonus

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent certification or on-the-job training.
• Minimum of three years editorial experience and two years in educational assessment.
• Strong end-to-end copyediting proficiency including spelling, grammar, punctuation, syntax, diction, and usage.
• Familiar with major style guides (Chicago Manual of Style, Gregg Reference Manual, Garner’s Modern English Usage).
• Understanding of copyright law in assessment and QA process.

Responsibilities

• Implements grammar, spelling, usage, punctuation, syntax, and style per department, client, and industry standards; applies rules consistently.
• Ensures uniformity and consistency across assessment components; identifies errors throughout the workday with minimal mistakes.
• Exercises good judgment when applying client style guidelines; queries deviations when appropriate.
• Understands copyeditor’s scope of responsibility and flags concerns when needed.
• Proactively seeks learning opportunities to strengthen editorial expertise across style guides and best practices.
