Job summary

Hargrove Engineers & Constructors is seeking an experienced Controls & Automation Engineer in Birmingham, AL. This role involves designing automation systems, leading engineering tasks, and providing startup support on site.

The candidate will mentor junior engineers and coordinate with other disciplines to ensure timely project delivery. The ideal candidate has 3+ years in controls and automation, knowledge of ISA S88 and IEC 61131, and familiarity with major PLC/HMI/DCS platforms.

Qualifications

• Experience in design, testing, FAT/SAT, deployment and startup for automation projects.
• Understand and apply ISA S88 programming standards.
• Understand IEC 61131 programming languages and standards.
• Understand OSHA 1910.119 Management of Change.
• Ability to read PFDs, P&IDs, and instrument loop sheets.
• Develop equipment specifications for PLCs, HMIs, DCS, SIS, and MES systems.
• Ability to estimate task completion and develop construction cost estimates.

Responsibilities

• Perform complete design of Controls & Automation engineering assignments.
• Act as technical lead or team member on projects under supervision.
• Provide on-site startup assistance and guidance to staff.
• Coordinate with staff and office leaders to ensure smooth delivery.
• Produce control system architecture designs and BOM for estimates.
• Develop installation specifications and preliminary designs.
• Lead small interoffice work packages for execution.
