Job summary

ASI, a division of Livingston & Haven, is seeking a Senior Controls Engineer in Birmingham, AL. You will lead complex control projects, design electrical schematics, and program PLC/HMI systems while mentoring engineers and technicians.

You will drive hardware/software standardization, optimize performance through testing and integration, and coordinate with mechanical and applications teams to ensure successful deployments and safety compliance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Industrial Automation, or related field.
• Minimum 5 years of controls programming experience or similar industrial controls experience.
• 3+ years leading complex automation projects with design, programming, integration, and commissioning.
• Experience with PLC, HMI, VFD, robot, servo, or other controls programming.
• Ability to read electrical prints and design electrical layouts is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead complex controls system designs including electrical schematics, panel layouts, and PLC/HMI programming.
• Develop and implement advanced automation solutions with high-level design and troubleshooting.
• Drive system architecture standardization for hardware and software.
• Validate system functionality through simulation and on-site testing.
• Oversee project scopes, design reviews, and cross-disciplinary coordination.
