Job summary

The Boys Farmers Market is seeking a Chef / Sous Chef to lead the Prepared Foods Department and oversee daily kitchen operations. You will ensure top-quality, market-driven prepared foods with strict food safety standards and collaboration with store leadership.

Ideal candidates bring 5+ years in culinary roles, proven kitchen management, and ServSafe or equivalent certification. Esteemed for organization and the ability to manage staff, inventory, and costs in a fast-paced retail setting.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of professional culinary experience, including experience in a chef or sous chef role preferably in retail grocery environment
• Proven experience in kitchen management, including staff supervision
• Strong knowledge of food safety regulations and compliance standards (e.g., ServSafe certification or equivalent)
• Excellent organizational and time-management skills in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs as needed

Responsibilities

• Lead daily kitchen operations within the Prepared Foods Department, ensuring smooth workflow and timely production
• Execute seasonal menus that highlight fresh, locally sourced ingredients
• Supervise, train, and mentor kitchen staff to maintain high culinary and operational standards
• Enforce strict food safety compliance, including proper food handling, storage, and sanitation practices in accordance with local and state health codes
• Work with leadership to manage inventory and portion control to minimize waste and control food costs
• Monitor kitchen equipment maintenance and cleanliness to ensure a safe working environment
• Collaborate with store management to align prepared foods offerings with customer demand and seasonal availability
• Maintain food safety compliance
