Job summary

Merck & Co., Inc. in the United States seeks a Principal Scientist to join our DSCS Digital Technologies team to advance CFD-driven scale-up across biotech and small-molecule processes, with emphasis on biologics.

You will lead physics-based assessments of mixing, gas transfer, and reactor performance to inform development and manufacturing decisions. You will design scale-down models, mentor scientists, shape modeling standards, and partner with process development to enable robust scale-up

Qualifications

• Ph.D./MS/BS with industrial/pharmaceutical experience as listed in Education
• Strong transport phenomena, fluid mechanics, mixing theory and gas-liquid transfer
• Hands-on CFD with the listed tools and post-processing

Responsibilities

• Lead CFD and engineering simulation of bioreactor mixing and gassing for scale-up decisions
• Design scale-down models reproducing critical hydrodynamic environments
• Extend modeling to harvest and TFF processes to quantify hydrodynamic risk
• Own end-to-end modeling project execution and communicate predictions
• Mentor junior scientists and shape modeling roadmap and standards
• Support enterprise scale-up strategy across portfolio

Education

Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Bioengineering, Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Data Science or closely-related field

M.S. in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Bioengineering, Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Data Science or closely-related field
