Job summary

Avanath is seeking a Chief Building Engineer to lead the maintenance of our residential community in Washington, DC. You will oversee mechanical, plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems, including low-pressure steam heating, fire-alarm, and security systems, while ensuring safety and regulatory compliance.

You will manage maintenance staff, coordinate with external contractors, and drive preventive maintenance programs to protect and maximize property value.

Qualifications

• 5-7 years’ experience in Residential Property Maintenance, with 3 years of supervisory experience in the last 5 years preferred
• A plumbing license is required
• C. 3rd Class Boiler Operator License and low/high-pressure boiler licenses are required
• Experience with Building Maintenance Systems (BMS)
• Driver’s license required
• Demonstrated working knowledge of engineering and building systems

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain mechanical, plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems.
• Oversee steam-heating and fire-alarm systems; maintain related logs and inspections.
• Manage maintenance staff, work orders, and vendor coordination; supervise capital projects.
• Ensure safety compliance and regulatory requirements across the property.
