Job summary

WSP is seeking a Lead Bridge Engineer in Herndon, VA to join our Mid-Atlantic South District Transportation Team. You will lead high-level structural engineering tasks, coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, and drive design through construction with a focus on durability and safety.

The role demands a licensed structural/civil engineer with 7–10 years of experience, strong technical writing, and proficiency in major design software.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering or closely related discipline.
• 7 to 10 years of relevant post-education experience in engineering discipline with prior structural or civil design experience.
• Engineer license required.
• Proficient with structural engineering principles, practices, process, design/build, and application to project work.
• Knowledge of infrastructure planning, design, and construction management; involvement in rehabilitation, new design, and construction projects.
• Sustainability focus and reducing hazardous substances/greenhouse gas.
• Familiarity with codes, regulations, and record-keeping; strong technical writing and data interpretation.
• Ability to plan inspections and coordinate with owners, disciplines, sub-consultants and clients.

Responsibilities

• Lead high-level structural engineering work and provide guidance for multiple projects.
• Develop construction plans, specifications, cost estimates, and safety/phase plans.
• Coordinate with owners, disciplines, sub-consultants, and clients.
• Prepare technical reports and presentations for complex issues or opportunities.
• Oversee cross-functional teams and manage budgets, hours, and resources.
• Stay current with latest structural engineering techniques and practices.
• Engage with regulatory agencies and stakeholders professionally.
