Amgen seeks a Principal ML Engineer to lead AI initiatives from initial business idea through a validated PoC with a clear path to enterprise adoption. Qualifications

• Doctorate/2+ years ML Engineer experience or Master’s 6+ years or Bachelor’s 8+ years or Associate’s 10+ years or HS diploma 12+ years.
• Substantial experience in ML and software engineering with senior technical ownership of apps beyond prototypes.
• Deep full-stack development: Python, APIs, back ends, UIs, data integration, modern design.
• Cloud platforms (AWS) and DevOps with Terraform, containers, CI/CD, observability.
• Experience with enterprise architecture, secure data handling, reliability, performance and maintainability.
• Experience establishing evaluation approaches for AI applications using quantitative and qualitative evidence.
• Strong software engineering discipline: automated testing, version control, modular design, code reviews, documentation.
• Demonstrated technical leadership through architecture decisions and cross-team collaboration.
• 2+ years leading teams, projects, or programs.
• Clear written and verbal communication with technical and business audiences.

Responsibilities

• Lead AI initiatives from idea to PoC with measurable outcomes.
• Shape ideas into well-defined problems and assess value/feasibility.
• Architect and build AI PoCs using LLMs, RAG, data pipelines and cloud-native services.
• Establish reusable patterns, guide engineers, ensure security/compliance.
• Collaborate with business leaders to understand workflows and define outcomes.
• Mentor teams and drive engineering delivery with ownership and accountability.
• Provide technical direction to product/platform teams for enterprise adoption.
