Job summary

Amgen is seeking a Principal Machine Learning Engineer to lead AI initiatives end-to-end, from initial business concept through validated PoCs to enterprise deployment. You will partner with business leaders, product managers, and engineering teams to define problems, assess value, and design scalable AI solutions that deliver measurable outcomes.

As a senior technical leader, you will own architecture decisions, address data readiness, integration, security, and cost, and mentor other engineers

Qualifications

• Substantial experience in ML and software engineering with ownership of applications beyond prototypes.
• Full-stack development including Python and APIs, and hands-on software engineering discipline.
• Cloud platforms such as AWS; DevOps with Terraform, containers, CI/CD, observability.
• Experience with enterprise architecture and evaluation approaches for AI applications.
• Demonstrated leadership through architecture decisions and cross-functional mentorship.

Responsibilities

• Lead AI initiatives from idea to PoC with path to enterprise adoption.
• Shape problems with business leaders and technical teams, assess value and feasibility.
• Design and build AI solutions with measurable outcomes and reusable components.
• Guide teams on data readiness, integration, security, performance, and cost considerations.
• Create documentation, decision records, and handoff materials for scale-up.
• Mentor engineers and uphold high engineering standards across product and platform teams.
