Job summary

Amgen is seeking a Director, AI & Machine Learning to lead technical direction across strategic AI initiatives within Amgen Research. You will partner with scientists and engineering teams to design scalable AI solutions and establish production-grade ML architectures.

The role requires deep expertise in AI/ML, software engineering, MLOps, governance, and leadership, with responsibilities to recruit and mentor talent, set roadmaps, and ensure responsible AI practices across multiple programs.

Qualifications

• Doctorate degree with 4+ years in director-level AI/ML leadership.
• Master's degree with 8+ years in director-level AI/ML leadership.
• Bachelor's degree with 10+ years in director-level AI/ML leadership.
• Minimum 4 years of direct people management/leadership experience.

Responsibilities

• Set AI and ML strategy and roadmap aligned to R&D and business priorities.
• Lead advanced ML programs including generative AI and foundation models.
• Establish production ML architecture and reusable engineering patterns.
• Guide MLOps and data platform strategy focusing on data quality and governance.
• Champion responsible AI with governance and risk controls.
• Build high-performing teams and guide senior professionals.
• Drive portfolio value with KPIs and measurable outcomes.
• Build strategic alliances across scientists, tech leaders, and compliance teams.
