Job summary

Bain & Company, Inc. in New York City is seeking an AI Engineer to design, build, and deploy generative AI systems within the Applied Technology & AI group.

You will contribute across the full development lifecycle, from prototyping to production, working closely with senior engineers, product managers, and data scientists. You’ll tackle multi-agent pipelines, RAG, evaluation, and responsible AI practices, with opportunities to mentor peers and collaborate with ecosystem partners.

Qualifications

• 3–5+ years in software engineering, ML or applied AI roles with hands-on building responsibilities.
• Demonstrated experience shipping generative AI features end-to-end, from prototyping to production.
• Clear communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical collaborators.
• Collaborative experience across engineering, product, and data science teams; mentoring is a plus.
• Strong prompt engineering and context engineering skills.
• Experience with evaluation design and experimentation for LLMs.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to design, development and deployment of end-to-end generative AI systems and multi-agent workflows.
• Build and iterate multi-component AI pipelines (RAG, embedding generation, hybrid retrieval).
• Implement reasoning, tool use, and orchestration across AI workflows.
• Develop agentic systems with robust separation of concerns and memory architecture.
• Contribute across full stack: model experimentation, evaluation, and production deployment.
• Maintain APIs, microservices, CI/CD, and cloud-native deployments with observability.
• Support automated testing, latency monitoring and continual improvement of GenAI ops.
• Balance performance, safety and cost; implement guardrails and HITL workflows.
