Bain & Company, Inc. is seeking an AI Engineer in the Applied Technology & AI group in San Francisco to help design, build, and scale generative AI solutions for enterprise clients.

You will join a multidisciplinary team working with analytics, engineering, product management, and design to move AI from prototype to production while delivering measurable business impact. The role emphasizes collaboration, hands-on development, and emerging capabilities across AI systems.

Formación

• 3–5+ years in software engineering, ML engineering, or applied AI roles with hands-on building responsibilities.
• Shipping generative AI features or systems end-to-end, from prototyping through production.
• Clear communication skills to explain technical concepts to non-technical collaborators and stakeholders.
• Collaborate across engineering, product, and data science teams; mentoring peers is a plus.
• Strong prompt engineering and context engineering skills; familiarity with conversation design principles.
• Experience with evaluation design, experimentation frameworks, and data labeling strategies for LLM applications.
• Experience with: RAG architectures, agentic patterns (tool use, memory management, multi-agent systems), ReAct, RLAIF, HITL + feedback loops, and AI-specific tools & frameworks.
• Strong background in system design, architecture, and production-grade deployment.
• Comfort operating in high-ambiguity environments with cross-functional teams.
• Eagerness to grow into a technical leadership role; client-facing consulting or enterprise transformation experience is a plus.
• This role requires a minimum of three days per week working in person, either at a client location or Bain home office; travel may be required.

Responsabilidades

• Contribute to the design, development, and deployment of end-to-end generative AI systems and multi-agent workflows.
• Build and iterate on AI pipelines including retrieval-augmented generation, fine-tuning, embedding generation, and hybrid retrieval strategies.
• Implement reasoning, tool use, function calling, and orchestration across AI workflows.
• Develop agentic systems with sound memory, separation of concerns, and tool integration.
• Contribute across the full stack: model experiments, evaluation design, and production deployment.
• Build and maintain APIs, microservices, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud-native deployments with observability.
• Support GenAIOps for automated testing, latency monitoring, and continual improvement.
• Balance performance, safety, and cost; implement guardrails and HITL workflows; align with Responsible AI standards.
• Develop evaluation suites for user signals, continual learning, and model updates.
• Collaborate with product, engineering, data science, ethics, and infrastructure teams and communicate findings clearly to stakeholders.
• Share knowledge around RAG, agents, prompt engineering, and AI safety.
