Job summary

Bain & Company in New York seeks an Expert Senior Manager / Associate Partner AI Engineer to architect, build, and scale next-generation generative AI systems across client engagements.

You will lead cross-functional teams, own the full lifecycle from research to production, and embed responsible AI governance in enterprise solutions. The role requires strategic thinking and hands-on delivery with partners across Bain’s practice areas.

Qualifications

• 8–12+ years in software/ML or applied AI with hands-on building responsibilities.
• Led complex, multi-stack generative AI programs from conception through production.
• Strong executive communication translating highly technical concepts to business stakeholders.
• Track record of leading engineering teams, mentoring technical talent, and collaborating with cross-functional groups.
• Advanced prompt engineering, context engineering, and conversation design.
• Deep experience with advanced RAG architectures (vector, hybrid, graph-based retrieval) and HITL workflows.
• This role requires minimum three days per week working in person and travel beyond home office.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and deploy end-to-end generative AI systems, including multi-agent workflows.
• Architect multi-component pipelines (RAG, fine-tuning, embeddings, hybrid retrieval).
• Integrate reasoning, tool use, function calling, and orchestration across workflows.
• Engineer agentic systems with scalable tool ecosystems and robust memory architecture.
• Lead research to production deployment and oversee API development, CI/CD, and cloud deployment.
• Build GenAIOps processes for automated testing, latency monitoring, and continual improvement.
• Balance performance with safety and cost, implementing guardrails and HITL workflows.
• Partner with ethics teams to align with Responsible AI standards.
• Mentor teams on RAG, agents, prompt engineering, and AI safety.
