Job summary

Bain & Company, Inc. is seeking an AI Engineer in Applied Technology & AI to design, build, and deploy generative AI systems as part of a cross-functional team of engineers, data scientists, and product managers.

You will drive end-to-end AI solutions from prototyping to production in a fast-paced, data-driven consulting context. The role emphasizes hands-on development, collaboration with clients and Bain teams, and adherence to responsible AI practices while delivering measurable business

Qualifications

• 3–5+ years in software/ML engineering with hands-on building responsibilities.
• Experience shipping generative AI features end-to-end.
• Clear communication with non-technical collaborators and stakeholders.
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate across engineering, product, and data science; mentoring peers is a plus.
• Strong prompt engineering and context engineering skills.
• Familiarity with evaluation design, experimentation frameworks, and data labeling for LLMs.
• Experience with: RAG architectures (vector retrieval, hybrid/graph approaches).
• Experience with: agentic patterns (tool use, memory management, multi-agent systems).
• Familiarity with ReAct, RLAIF, and HITL + feedback loops.
• Comfort with cost and latency tradeoffs in LLM workloads.
• Willingness to work in person at least 3 days per week; travel may be required.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to design, development, and deployment of end-to-end generative AI systems.
• Build and iterate multi-component AI pipelines (RAG, embeddings, vector/graph tech).
• Implement reasoning, tool use, function calling, and orchestration across AI workflows.
• Develop agentic systems with solid engineering practices and memory management.
• Contribute to full stack: model experiments, eval design, production deployment.
• Build and maintain APIs, microservices, CI/CD, cloud deployments with observability.
• Support GenAIOps: automated testing, latency monitoring, continual improvement.
• Balance performance, safety, and cost; implement guardrails and HITL workflows.
• Collaborate with product, engineering, data science, ethics, and infra teams.
