Job summary

Bain & Company’s AIS team seeks an Expert Senior Manager / Associate Partner AI Engineer to architect, build, and scale next‑generation generative AI systems for enterprise clients.

You will own the full lifecycle—from research and experimentation to production deployment and optimization—leading cross‑functional teams across engineering, product, data science, ethics, and client stakeholders to deliver measurable impact.

Qualifications

• 8–12+ years in software engineering, ML engineering, or applied AI roles with hands‑on building responsibilities.
• Proven track record leading complex multi‑stack generative AI programs from concept to production.
• Strong executive communication skills to translate highly technical concepts to business stakeholders.
• Experience leading engineering teams and mentoring technical talent in diverse groups.
• Advanced prompt engineering, context engineering, and conversation design.
• Strong expertise in evaluation design, experimentation frameworks, and data labeling strategies for LLM apps.
• Deep experience with: Advanced RAG architectures, agentic architectures, HITL + feedback loops.
• Strong background in system design and production‑grade deployment.
• Cost optimization and computational tradeoffs for LLM workloads.
• Experience in client‑facing consulting or enterprise transformation is a strong plus.
• This role requires a minimum of three days per week working together in person; travel is required.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and deploy end-to-end generative AI systems and multi-agent workflows.
• Architect multi-component pipelines including RAG, fine-tuning, embeddings.
• Integrate reasoning, tool use, function calling, and orchestration across workflows.
• Engineer agentic systems with scalable memory and tool ecosystems.
• Lead from early-stage research to production deployment and ongoing optimization.
• Oversee API development, microservices, CI/CD, observability, and cloud deployment.
• Build GenAIOps processes for automated testing, latency monitoring, and continual improvement.
• Balance performance, safety, and cost with guardrails and HITL workflows.
• Partner with ethics teams to align with Responsible AI standards.
• Design evaluation frameworks covering hallucination, relevance, latency, cost.
• Collaborate with product, engineering, data science, ethics, and infra teams.
• Act as thought partner to executives on AI strategy and roadmaps.
• Mentor teams on RAG, agents, prompt engineering, and AI safety.
