Job summary

Humana Inc. is seeking a Lead AI Engineer to own the design and delivery of the NBA platform's agentic AI capabilities. This is a hands-on role with production code and you will lead a pod of engineers and contractors to deliver AI-powered workflows.

You will architect multi-step AI pipelines, integrate Claude/OpenAI-style models, and embed AI analysis into operator-facing interfaces while ensuring reliability and safety in a regulated healthcare context.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of software or ML engineering experience with 1–2 years in LLM integration or AI product engineering
• Hands-on production experience with agentic systems and multi-step pipelines
• Experience with retrieval-augmented systems and vector search in production
• Strong Python engineering skills for production AI systems
• Experience integrating LLM APIs (Anthropic/OpenAI) into real apps
• Ability to lead a small team or pod and manage contractors
• Clear judgment on when AI is appropriate in regulated member-facing contexts
• Strong communication to explain architectures to engineers and product owners

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and own AI agent workflows delivering analysis, recommendations, and automation
• Write and ship production code alongside the team; hands-on developer role
• Architect multi-step agent pipelines integrating with data, outputs, and activation channels
• Own LLM integration including prompts, tools, context management
• Partner with frontend/product teams to embed AI experiences in UI
• Build evaluation frameworks ensuring reliability, auditability, and safety
• Manage AI engineering contractors within the pod and ensure quality
• Model best practices for AI-assisted development across the org
