Job summary

Humana Inc. invites a Lead AI Engineer to own the design and delivery of AI agentic capabilities for the NBA platform.

This is a hands-on role, writing production code and leading a small team of engineers and contractors to bring AI-powered workflows and intelligent analysis into user-facing experiences. You will integrate LLMs (Claude, GPT or equivalents), design multi-step pipelines, surface AI-driven analyses in the Command and Control UI, and ensure reliability and safety in a regulated

Qualifications

• 6+ years in software or ML engineering with focus on LLM integration
• Hands-on production agentic systems development
• Experience with retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) and vector search
• Strong Python proficiency for production-grade AI systems
• Experience integrating LLM APIs into real applications
• Proven ability to lead a small team or contractor pod
• Judgment on when AI is appropriate in regulated contexts
• Ability to explain agentic architecture to engineers and product owners
• Familiarity with AI productivity tools (Claude, Copilot, etc.)

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and own AI agent workflows across UI and tooling
• Hands-on development writing production code alongside the team
• Architect multi-step agent pipelines integrating with data layer and decisioning
• Own LLM integration including prompt engineering and context management
• Partner with frontend/product teams to embed AI insights into operator surfaces
• Build evaluation frameworks to ensure reliability and safety in healthcare context
• Manage AI engineering contractors within the pod
• Promote best practices for AI-assisted development across the organization
