Job summary

The City of Peoria is seeking a Police Communications Specialist to join the Peoria Police Department Communications Section. This role handles 9-1-1 and non-emergency calls, processes information, and dispatches resources using state-of-the-art systems.

Candidates must meet strict requirements including a high school diploma, 2 years in a related role, CJIS/TOC training within 6 months, and strong typing (35 wpm). Shift work including nights and weekends is required.

Qualifications

  • High school graduation or equivalency required.
  • 2 years experience in the same or similar position.
  • CJIS Security Training & ACJIS TOC within 6 months of hire.
  • CJIS background investigation, polygraph, medical and psychological evaluation required.
  • Felony convictions disqualify candidates.
  • Typing 35 words per minute required.
  • Vision/ Hearing tests to meet 20/20 and at least 40db hearing.
  • Must work nights, weekends, and holidays for 24/7 operations.

Responsibilities

  • Answer emergency and non-emergency calls using a multi-line system.
  • Dispatch police resources and provide information to personnel.
  • Cross-train as call taker and radio dispatcher.
  • Support shift work with nights, weekends, and holidays.

This position requires shift work, and all employees must be able to work nights, weekends, and holidays, as required.
