Job summary

Advocate Health is seeking a senior leader to manage Language Access and Interpreting Services in the Wake Area. You will lead staffing, ensure quality and patient experience, and provide expertise in complex interpretation cases, while coordinating with hospital departments.

The role requires 5+ years in medical interpretation, certification (CMI) within 1 year, and strong managerial and HR capabilities in a healthcare setting.

Qualifications

• Professional command of bilingual medical terminology including anatomy and physiology, diagnostic process, treatment, prevention and health education models.
• Knowledge of ethics of medical interpreting per NCIHC guidelines.
• Ability to oversee interpreters in difficult messages including end-of-life scenarios.
• Strong human relations and communication abilities.
• Basic computer skills.
• Ability to use video interpreting techniques.

Responsibilities

• Maintains staffing of Medical Interpreter caregivers with productivity, quality and patient experience standards.
• Monitors interpreter utilization and directs staff and agency interpreters.
• Provides expertise in complex cases and serves as resource for interpretation policies.
• Communicates with interpreter leadership to optimize patient flow and care.
• Investigates complaints and suggests improvements.
• Maintains in-service programs for interpreters and clinical staff.
• Provides medical interpreting services as needed.
• Complies with laws governing medical interpreting in healthcare.
• Handles HR duties including coaching, performance reviews, hiring decisions and promotions.
