Job summary

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required; related equipment, landfill, maintenance, or customer service experience preferred.
• Must obtain Landfill Operator Certification within 12 months of hire.
• Must be able to operate heavy equipment safely and follow procedures.

Responsibilities

• Operates scale house; weighs vehicles, enters data, prints tickets, and maintains accurate records.
• Inspects incoming loads for acceptable waste and directs customers to appropriate disposal areas.
• Operates loaders, bulldozers, compactors, graders, forklifts, and other equipment as trained and assigned.
• Pushes, spreads, grades, and compacts waste and cover material at the working face as directed by the Landfill Supervisor.
• Performs assigned duties in accordance with the landfill permit, operating procedures, and applicable regulations.
• Provides daily work direction to landfill staff and assists with coordinating assignments, coverage, and workflow as directed by the Landfill Supervisor.
• Monitors work activities for safety, proper procedures, site cleanliness, and completion of assigned tasks and reports concerns to the Landfill Supervisor.
• Serves as the on-site lead when designated by the Landfill Supervisor.
• Immediately reports prohibited waste, spills, fires, unsafe conditions, or potential compliance issues.
• Assists with receiving, organizing, loading, and documenting tires, E-waste, metal, and other designated materials.
• Performs daily equipment inspections and routine preventive maintenance.
• Maintains the landfill grounds, buildings, roads, fence lines, and disposal areas in a clean and orderly condition.
• Observes established safety procedures and uses required personal protective equipment.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
