Rockingham County seeks a dedicated Landfill Operator to support the Landfill Superintendent in daily operations at the county landfill. The role involves operating heavy equipment, supervising crew, and maintaining landfill equipment when the supervisor is absent.

Required qualifications include a High School Diploma or GED, 2 years of related experience, and Virginia certifications such as a Part 107 Drone License and Solid Waste Management Class II.

Responsibilities

• Schedule duties for the Landfill crew.
• Direct landfill customers on acceptable refuse per county guidelines.
• Ensure refuse is properly compacted, spread and covered.
• Burial of refuse using heavy equipment as required.
• Maintain fill dirt stockpiles and assist operators as needed.
• Assist in long-term site capacity, expansion and closure planning.
• Ensure compliance with permits and federal, state and local regulations.
• Utilize GPS rover, earthwork software, and a drone to mark GPS coordinates and evaluate compaction.
• Perform other related tasks as necessary.
