Job summary

Casella Waste Systems, Inc. is seeking a Heavy Equipment Operator at our landfill. You will operate backhoes, forklifts, graders, tractors, and front-end loaders to transfer, spread, cover, load, and compact waste or soil in a safe, efficient manner.

Responsibilities include pre/post inspections, safety checks, waste monitoring for hazards, and assisting with maintenance when needed. The role offers advancement through defined career paths and a competitive hourly range.

Qualifications

• Must have a high school diploma or GED and two years of prior heavy equipment operating experience.
• Legally eligible to work in the US.
• Proven commitment to safety, strong communication and problem-solving abilities.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy equipment (backhoes, forklifts, graders, tractors, front-end loaders) safely at the landfill.
• Perform pre/post operation inspections and ensure safety devices are functional.
• Monitor waste for hazardous materials and maintain equipment readiness to minimize downtime.
• Perform minor service on equipment and refer major issues to maintenance.
• Follow all safety policies, procedures, and training protocols.
• Assist technicians with maintenance and communicate mechanical issues as needed.
• Participate in training and growth opportunities and support company goals.
