Job summary

Rochester Regional Health's Canton-Potsdam Hospital is seeking a Laboratory Assistant to receive and track patient samples into the LIS, ensuring specimen integrity for all testing and supporting laboratory operations.

The role supports specimen processing, coordination with MTs and supervision, performs quality checks on equipment, maintains inventory, and communicates issues to leadership. 37.5 hours weekly with 8-hour shifts, weekend rotation.

Qualifications

• Receive and track patient samples into the LIS for testing.
• Maintain specimen integrity for all laboratory testing.
• Follow departmental safety procedures to reduce exposure risk.

Responsibilities

• Notifies departments of problem resolutions pertaining to specimen discrepancies.
• Retrieves samples from Specimen Processing and delivers to the appropriate testing department.
• Maintains inventory, checks expiration dates, logs in media and reagents.
• Answers phone calls and notifies leadership of issues.
• Performs daily sample pending review and monitors batch testing pending.
