Job summary

Argonne National Laboratory seeks an ESH Coordinator to support the Biosciences (BIO) Division within CELS. You will act as a strategic link between health, safety, and environmental programs and BIO line management and researchers, guiding risk reduction and compliance across lab activities.

The role emphasizes collaboration with scientists and staff, applying SME expertise to hazard controls, and ensuring ESH considerations are integrated from planning through execution in a dynamic research

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in physical science, engineering, health & safety, environmental engineering, or a related field.
• 2+ years of safety and/or laboratory experience preferred.
• Certifications such as ASP, CSP, CIH preferred or to be obtained.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a vital member of the Laboratory’s deployed safety team, acting as a two-way communicator between Laboratory health, safety, and environmental programs and the deployed Division(s).
• Collaborate with line management, researchers, and workers to tailor safety programs and address area-specific safety needs in deployed Divisions.
• Provide support in work planning activities and act as a local safety professional resource with practical implementation solutions.
• Collaborate with SME such as Bio Safety Officer to determine hazard controls for planned work.
• Ensure ESH considerations are embedded in all phases of BIO work activities and align with policies and regulations.
