Job summary

The New York Genome Center is seeking an Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) and Laboratory Manager to prevent injuries, ensure regulatory compliance, and lead safety programs across NYGC laboratories. The role includes inspections, risk assessments, PPE management, medical surveillance, and training, with responsibility as Biosafety Officer and Chemical Safety Officer.

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Facilities and Office Management, you will chair the Institutional Biosafety Committee,

Qualifications

• Master of Science in occupational health, safety or a related scientific field.
• At least three years of EHS experience in biotech, pharmaceutical or academic laboratory settings.
• Familiarity with OSHA, EPA and FDNY regulations.
• Excellent communication skills and a hands-on approach.
• OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead the implementation of environmental health and safety policies and practices.
• Inspect laboratories and work areas for compliance with regulations and standards.
• Oversee PPE programs and medical surveillance for exposed employees.
• Maintain training programs and emergency preparedness plans; educate staff.
• Serve as Chair of the Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) and regulatory contact.
• Oversee permits and inventory related to safety and hazardous materials.
• Ensure critical safety equipment (fume hoods, BSCs, autoclaves) is maintained.
