Job summary

The New York Genome Center (NYGC) is seeking an Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) and Laboratory Manager to lead safety programs, ensure regulatory compliance, and support a safe laboratory environment.

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Facilities and Office Management, this role oversees biosafety, chemical safety, emergency preparedness, and environmental management across NYGC labs and facilities, while maintaining training records and collaborating with investigators and facilities

Qualifications

• M.S. in occupational health, safety or a related scientific field.
• At least three years of EHS experience in biotech, pharma or academic labs.
• Familiarity with OSHA, EPA and FDNY regulations.

Responsibilities

• Lead implementation of EHS policies and practices with risk assessments.
• Ensure PPE availability for laboratory tasks and medical surveillance programs.
• Inspect and audit lab environments for regulatory compliance.
• Serve as Chair of the Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) and Biosafety Officer.
• Maintain procedures for alcohol permits and COF issuance with FDNY.
• Lead emergency preparedness, training, and drills across NYGC labs and facilities.
• Coordinate maintenance of critical lab equipment and safety systems.
• Develop and deliver employee training on health and safety.
