Job summary

Fairview Range in Hibbing, MN is seeking a Laboratory Care Technician to join the Range Clinic Laboratory Department. The LCT performs specimen collection, ensures proper handling, enters orders into LIS, and supports point-of-care testing while coordinating with the lab team.

This role involves phlebotomy across multiple sites, scheduling tests, providing results by phone, and maintaining quality and safety standards.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent (diploma, GED) required.
• Completion of a formal phlebotomy education program.
• Three months of full-time clinical phlebotomy and laboratory experience, or enrollment in an MLT/MLS program with phlebotomy coursework.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Strong customer service background in diverse settings.
• Ability to work under stress and exercise independent judgment.
• Demonstrates manual dexterity and competence in collecting blood samples.
• Basic Life Support (American Heart Association or Red Cross) certification required in clinic settings.

Responsibilities

• Obtain biological specimens and perform procedures following SOPs.
• Collect specimens with proper technique and ensure proper handling.
• Perform phlebotomy at various sites and communicate special handling needs.
• Enter and release order and collection information into LIS/HIS and related subsystems.
• Monitor computer logs, schedule tests, and provide results by LIS/HIS or phone.
• Maintain safety, infection control, and quality assurance standards.
• Mentor students and support inventory and equipment maintenance.
