Qualifications

High School graduate, equivalent, or higher.
Completion of a formal phlebotomy education program.
Completion of three months of full-time clinical phlebotomy and laboratory experience.
Enrollment in MLT or MLS program including completion of a phlebotomy course.
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Demonstrate successful customer service in a diverse setting.
Demonstrate ability to work under stress and exercise independent judgment.
Demonstrate manual dexterity and proficiency in collecting blood samples.
Basic Life Support certification within 90 days when working in clinic settings.

Responsibilities

Follows established guidelines to obtain biological specimens and perform procedures.
Collects biological specimens with proper technique following SOPs.
Performs phlebotomy at various sites and communicates handling needs of the specimen.
Uses communication skills to meet patient and customer needs.
Demonstrates proficiency with point-of-care or waived testing.
May perform EKGs and train others in phlebotomy.
Ensure specimens are acceptable for testing with proper identification.
Process specimens prior to testing or sending to labs.
Perform daily quality control, troubleshooting and equipment maintenance.
Monitor inventory and restock supplies.
